About

I’ve always been intrigued by the bartending profession. There’s just something magical about the performance you get to witness while the person in front of you combines elements of a recipe in a specific way in order to create what’s essentially a magic potion.

I finally got my chance to try and be this person a few years ago when I worked at King’s Tavern in Natchez Mississippi training under Ricky Woolfolk. And while I felt I was extremely lucky for this opportunity, and thankful for a great teacher… I quickly came to the conclusion that I should probably just stick to being an artist.

But while I was there, I had the idea to create a set of flashcards that could be used in the home as well as behind the bar. And this is how I came up with the idea for the cocktail recipe cards.

I hope these will help you as much as they helped me.

My initial idea was to create 10-15 cocktail recipe cards for King’s Tavern, so that when customers asked how they could make the cocktail at home, we could just hand them a cute little card with instructions on the back.

I started with my favorite on the menu, The Little Easy (credit: Ricky Woolfolk)

Once I started this process, it quickly became obvious that other people could benefit from a set of cocktail flashcards as well. So I started working on a set of popular/most requested/classic and new recipes for the intro deck. There are so many cocktails out there, I knew the first set needed to be a good foundation.

This first deck was as close as I could get to an “average” on each cocktail. I wanted to give anyone who picked up this set a recipe that could be universally accepted. And in the future, subsequent decks that were improvements on the classic versions of the drinks.

From starting out with sketches, to finally holding the box in my hands took me about 5 years. There was so much more involved in creating a business, a brand and a product than I could have imagined.

I’m happy I can finally share these with everyone.
